Gilmer Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This neighborhood offers exquisite estates and is located just three miles from downtown Salt Lake City.
Much of the appeal of Gilmer Park is noted because of the design of the neighborhood. This was one of the first subdivisions in Salt Lake City that was developed with curving streets. At the time this type of neighborhood layout was considered very progressive and was once known as “Architects Row” due to the fact that three renowned architects, Taylor Woolley, Clifford P. Evans and Harold W. Burton took up residence in Gilmer Park.
Before it became the Gilmer Park Subdivision, this area was the Gilmer family’s estate. John and Mary Gilmer purchased this land.
Many prominent Salt Lake City residents chose to live in Gilmer Park. The neighborhood has been home to leaders in politics, business, medicine, religion, law, and the arts. Rich in history and architecture, Gilmer Park is one of Salt Lake City’s best-preserved historic neighborhoods.
